Our Forest - Hutan Kita Sekolah- Sekolah Putrajaya
‘Hutan Kita Sekolah-Sekolah Putrajaya’, simply translated as ‘Our Forest in Putrajaya Schools’ is a reforestation program involving 20 schools in the city of Putrajaya, Malaysia. A launching of the program was held at Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah, Putrajaya on 11th November 2010 and offi ciated by the Chairman of Landskap Malaysia, Tun Jeanne Abdullah. This program was jointly organized by Landskap Malaysia and Sekretariat Prihatin Malaysia with collaboration from Jabatan Pelajaran Wilayah Persekutuan Putrajaya, Perbadanan Putrajaya, OISCAInternational and OISCA Malaysia. This event is also supported by Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Alam Sekitar Malaysia and Ministry of Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing.
The program is initiated following the success of an earlier tree planting program called Hutan Kita which was held on 15th February 2009 at Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur. A total of 2,500 saplings from 10 species of forest trees were planted by students and teachers at all 20 schools in Putrajaya simultaneously. This program aims at creating a forest environment within the school compound that will provide ample opportunities for environmental education and enhancing student’s awareness towards the importance and benefi ts of trees.
On 24th October 2010, Landskap Malaysia with Sekretariat Prihatin Malaysia, OISCA International and OISCA Malaysia have reached a common understanding and signed an agreement in Nagoya, Japan to form a partnership called Kami-Omoiyari. Kami-Omoiyari is a combination of a Malay word, Kami translated as We while Omoiyari means Care in Japanese. Tun Jeanne Abdullah highlighted that the younger generation should inculcate the spirit of forest stewardship through appreciation. With such strength and enthusiasm, it will ensure the existence of our forest in the future. The Chairman also added that everyone including the government must play a pivotal role and should be responsible to educate, guide and shape them to become attentive and sensitive towards the environment.
Background of Landskap Malaysia
The formation of Landskap Malaysia was the initiative of Y.A.Bhg. Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Y.A.Bhg. Tun Jeanne Abdullah. It is an independent, non-profit organisation incorporated on 25th March 2009.
