Kitchen Garden
One of our local hybrids is a hybrid between Johor and
Sarawak pineapples from where it got the name which was released by
MARDI in 1996. This variety is recommended as a table variety because
of its deep golden-yellow flesh, strong aroma and sweetness (17Brix and
22Brix when planted on peat and mineral soils, respectively). Fruits
weigh between 1.1-1.3 kg and cylindrical in shape with dark purple peel
to an attractive orange red when ripened. Storage life is good and the
fruits are resistant to black-heart disorder or internal browning
caused by low temperatures.

Ikebana
On 25th June 2004 the Gardenasia team attended the exhibition
and gala dinner to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Ikebana
International KL chapter and came away fascinated by the beautiful
creations they saw.
We
would like to share with our readers the creations exhibited. The
Japanese art of Ikebana is described as the art of beautifully
arranging cut stems, leaves, and flowers, in vases and other
containers. It has evolved in Japan over a period of seven decades.
Ikebana International facilitates the teaching of the techniques for
people to learn to arrange their flowers.

Paceri Nenas
The pineapple is a favourite fruit for preparation of
salad-like savoury dishes to accompany a rice meal, especially during
feasts. The sweet yet sour taste of the fruit helps to lighten heavy
meals such as the bryani rice dishes. Try out some of these old recipes.
