Peggy Tan of Orchid Society of Southeast Asia
Peggy Tan, on her short trip to Malaysia, managed to spare us some time at Garden Asia’s office to talk about her role as the First Vice President of Orchid Society of Southeast Asia. Based in Singapore, the Orchid Society of Southeast Asia (OSSEA) is a non profit organization which publishes the Malayan Orchid Review annually. It publishes articles of general or scientific interest in aspects of orchid cultivation, hybridization, conservation and research in South East Asia.
From someone who started off as a junior artist working for Bryan Hoyle of the design company Hagley & Hoyle, to owning the company itself, Peggy Tan has certainly come a long way. She was first involved in producing the Malayan Orchid Review in 1981. Back then she helped the editor, Prof Goh Chong Chin to produce the annual review on a very tight budget. Since then, she never looked back and her interest in orchids grew even stronger.

The Surprise? Broaden your mind by experiential learning
A month has passed and I wonder if any of our young gardener friends or older ones alike had visited the enchanted forest - Kota Damansara Community Forest Park? No? Ooo..What a pity! In November there’s a good reason for you to do so! Yes, the pleasant surprise is, if you want to know more than what meets the eye and a hands on approach then get ready to absorb new information, learn closely about nature and get close and personal with the flora and fauna by heading down to Kota Damansara on the 11 and 12 of November, 2006 for the Experiential Learning in Kota Damansara Community Forest Park.
This training session is only for those who are willing to pass the knowledge that they will gain during the training to other people later during planned expeditions into the forest. The objective of the training is to educate the soon to be educators or trainers the basic understanding of Experiential/Environmental Education through different activities and most importantly to provide tips and tools to facilitate outdoor activities in Kota Damansara Community Forest Park environment. Teachers and individuals who are passionate on passing the knowledge to others are most welcome.
